WAAW World is an international organisation dedicated to advancing gender equality in the arts. We certify cultural spaces that demonstrate a strong commitment to supporting and promoting women artists.
WAAW World welcomes cultural spaces from around the globe that share this commitment and wish to participate in our annual Impact Week (8–15 June). During this week, participating venues exclusively showcase female artists within their spaces. By presenting women artists simultaneously worldwide, we aim to create a unified and powerful global movement that advances the visibility of female artists. Beyond this dedicated week, we continue to support our certified spaces throughout the year and actively highlight their ongoing commitment to advancing gender equality in the arts.
In the history of the art world, women artists have often been systematically overlooked and underrepresented. WAAW World contributes to correcting historical underrepresentation by encouraging commercial and non commercial cultural organisations to engage more with female artists in order to create an environment that appreciates and fosters female artists’ role in the art world. Through partnerships with local organisations, global markets, and educational platforms, we aim to address gender inequality, promote economic empowerment, and create lasting social change in diverse communities worldwide in support of the SDG 5, part of the 2030 Agenda.
WAAW World’s mission is to remain community driven, environmentally sustainable, socially impactful, encouraging gender equality, supporting mental health and improving livelihoods of female artists who are parents (as it has a direct impact on their children).
