WAAW World welcomes cultural spaces from around the world that meet our criteria. Joining WAAW World is free for all galleries, art organisations and cultural institutions.

Once approved, participants will be added to our Certified Spaces directory and featured across our social media platforms, website, and press releases. Qualified participants will receive the WAAW World logo, which serves as a certification of their commitment to fostering gender equality.

Criteria for acceptance into WAAW World:

  • Participants are required to be willing to exhibit female and female-identifying artists for the full duration of our Impact Week (8th–15th June annually) at their venue/gallery.
  • While participation in Impact Week (8th–15th June) focuses on female and female-identifying artists, we expect all participants to commit to achieving fair gender representation in the artists they exhibit year-round. This aligns with our ongoing efforts to challenge gender bias and elevate underrepresented voices in the arts.
  • Participants are required to submit high-quality images and all relevant information about their female artists and events for WAAW World Impact Week by April 20th each year. This ensures inclusion in the press release and provides sufficient time for the successful organisation and promotion of all events.
  • Participants must follow the U.K. government’s guidance when qualifying an artist as a “woman” which defines gender as a social construction relating to behaviours and attributes based on labels of masculinity and femininity. https://www.ons.gov.uk/economy/environmentalaccounts/articles/whatisthedifferencebetweensexandgender/2019-02-21
